Yves Saint Laurent invited several popular bloggers to explore the values of the Parisienne (also the namesake of their latest fragrance) in different cities around the US and write about their experiences. One astute blogger noticed the affection French women exhibit for bicycles and looked for a bit of that in New York City. (Then again, she would notice that since she was born in Paris).

Christa: I am amazed by that woman because that doesn't look like an infant she's carrying! She must be strong. I'd like to be able to pull that off when I have a kid.

Wondering if this area in NYC has seen an increase in cyclists this last year.
Looks like all the bikes are vintage. Bike stores don't usually carry vintage (read: cool) bikes though. Why do women have to go to thrift stores and flee markets to get them?
Like handbags and sunglasses, bikes should be sold at non-native bicycle stores! From Nordstrom, to independent boutiques... why not?

Christa: I think that one may be better off buying a bike from a thrift store in NYC than a bike shop, especially if they specialize in vintage bikes--those places charge an arm and a leg. I read an account from someone who said her boyfriend bought a bike on Ebay and had it shipped from the Midwest cheaper than he could buy one in an NYC vintage bike shop. Shipping a bike is expensive so you know the prices in NYC must be outrageous.
It is too bad that you can't buy a bike in a department as was common in the past. My bike, Praline, was purchased by her original owner at Rich's (which is now Macy's).
